Afraid of Firearms

via TTAG, where they love this guy. I actually do too. In a talented way he musically portrays the pro-gun lies. What do you think?

  1. Lies? Oh, you must have meant the anti-gun lies and confusions. Yes, he does a good job of showing those.

  2. Two things about this guy's talent(?):
1.)He would be wise not to give up his day job,
2.) He shouldn't waste his time thinking about auditioning for American Idol.
    Other than that.... :-)))))))

  3. Mike, help me out here and tell me what he's lying about.

    1. Well there are two basic lies here.

      1. gun control folks are afraid of guns
      2. gun owners rational, reasonable and responsible

    2. Anonymous asked you to identify the lies, not the true statements.

  4. It just seems to me that when you blame a tool, an inanimate object, for a crime rather than the criminal who uses it that your focus is misplaced.
And as for their responsibility they are apparently more responsible as they commit less crimes proportionally than the general population. I can't find the story I was looking for but this one should suffice. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/12/foghorn/ny-times-uses-deceptive-statistics-to-promote-anti-gun-agenda-again/

    1. But as Dog Gone told us a while ago, we have to be perfect before she'll tolerate us. Not just vastly better. Of course, people without carry licenses are free to continue committing crimes at the usual rate.

    2. Try this on for size, Anonymous. No one is blaming the gun. What we sometimes do is blame gun availability. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

    3. Because availability is a part of life. Guns will not simply disappear. I would challenge you to try and legally own a firearm in Mexico. It is near close to impossible as an ordinary citizen. However I would not consider that the safest place in the world.
Look to Australia particularly in New South Wales. Again an almost entirely disarmed general population yet violent crimes are on the rise.

    4. But Mikeb, address the point: Concealed carry license holders commit crimes at a much lower rate than the general population.

If gun availability were a big problem, we'd have a much higher crime rate. There are 300,000,000 guns, more or less, in this country.

    5. Anonymous, availability is not a part of life. It's a thing that can and should be controlled. Your examples have nothing to do with our situation in the US. We could easily make the availability of guns to criminals much harder. Why would you not want that?

  5. Gun control? It's the best thing you can do for the crooks and gangster. I want you to have nothing. If I'm the bad guy, I'm always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I'll pull the trigger. We'll see who wins. — Sammy "the Bull" Gravano, Mafia hit man and informant (Vanity Fair, Aug 1999)

    1. That's wonderful, quoting Sammy The Bull to make your point about gun rights. I've always said there's much more in common between the lawful gun owner and the criminal gun owner than between either of them and us.

    2. Uh..I'm not sure what you are saying I have in common with a criminal gun owner. We both have guns? That's much better than the criminal having the only gun. The point I was making by quoting a criminal gun owner is that criminals don't just laugh at gun control laws, they actually love gun control laws because it makes their "job" easier and less stressful by assuring them that their victims will not be able to defend themselves. Above, when you said that Mexico and Australia have nothing to do with the US, you were absolutely wrong. Those two examples show what happens when you try to ban guns. Law abiding citizens turn in their guns. Criminals by definition, do not. Then the criminals have the only guns, and they know it.

    3. The problems in Mexico cannot be blamed on the gun control laws. I don't think even you would say that. So, forget about Mexico.

Australia and the UK continue to have crime problems but they have not degenerated into the bloody mess you keep saying will happen when guns are banned. It's even debatable whether crime has really worsened or not.

Furthermore, their governments have not turned tyrannical, the people are not being rounded up for dissent, in fact they enjoy more civil rights than you do in the gun friendly USA.

    4. The government of the U.K. hasn't turned tyrannical? So you're comfortable with cameras everywhere, with indefinite detentions, with limitations on speech and the press, and so forth?
