Arizona Gets Tough on Gun Crime - In Certain Cases

Arthur J. Tineo

The Washington Post reports on yet another school shooting. Normally when an adult shoots at or near a school he gets little more than a warning. Gun owners love to give each other the benefit of the doubt. But when you're in Arizona and you look like Mr. Tineo, you can be sure to pay for your crimes.

Bail was set Friday at $2 million for a man accused of firing a rifle at a southeastern Arizona high school, injuring a 17-year-old boy who was watching a baseball game.

The student suffered minor cuts from flying glass when the car he was in was shot at Thursday afternoon.

Tineo, of Willcox, was booked into Cochise County Jail on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder, plus charges of assault, endangerment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prohibited possession of a firearm, disorderly conduct with a weapon, and discharging a weapon within city limits.

Weaver said Thursday that it appeared Tineo was firing indiscriminately.

  2. Yes, another criminal-illegally-obtains-a-gun-and-does-criminal-things with-it story.

Yes, we already know. Gun control does not work anywhere. Thanks for pointing it out yet again.

  3. Quoting MikeB, "But when you're in Arizona and you look like Mr. Tineo, you can be sure to pay for your crimes." Are you a racist often, MikeB?

Feel free to look up Tineo's criminal career. It might take you a while to review all 31 of his cases. http://apps.supremecourt.az.gov/publicaccess/caselookup.aspx

    1. Robert, You're right, I was just being inflammatory to illustrate a truth about Arizona. Regardless of this particular case, you aren't saying that Arizona, the home of the most famous Sheriff in America and one of the kookiest governors, is a fair and square place are you?

    2. I'd prefer to be Hispanic with a mustache living in Arizona than any race living in Chicago.

    3. No, Mike, you were illustrating a truth about your own prejudice.

Are you aware of the racial composition of Arizona Police and Sheriff's departments?

    4. Your point being, of course, that in Arizona there's little or no racism towards Hispanics.

    5. This man isn't the one to bring up, if you're trying to get us to feel sorry about race prejudice in Arizona. Find a better poster child.
