"Good Guys with Guns" does not Seem to be Working Out as Planned

New Trajectory
  • March 6, 2013:  A recently-started armed resource officer program at schools in Highland, New York, was suspended after one of the security guards unintentionally fired his weapon in school.  Children were present, but luckily no one was injured.
  • March 1, 2013:  During a conceal carry training class, on school grounds, which was part of a new program to arm school staff, a school maintenance worker who was a student in the class unintentionally fired his weapon, wounding himself in the leg.
  • January 17, 2013:  A charter school in Lapeer, Michigan, decided to start having an armed guard on campus.  Three days after hiring a guard, the man left his weapon in a school bathroom where kids could have found it.
  • October 8, 2012:  A man with a concealed handgun visited an elementary school classroom in Moore, Oklahoma, to help the teacher with her computer.  His gun fell out and he left without it, only realizing it was missing after the media reported it.  Small children were present in the room at the time.
  • September 12, 2011:  An armed security guard, patrolling schools at night in Salem, Oregon, unintentionally lost his loaded firearm somewhere during his rounds.  The gun was never found.

  1. There is no reason to own guns. NEVER. EVER. PERIOD.

You know somebody with guns, call the Police. Even if you need to embellish a little bit. In the end, it's about getting guns away from people.

You will have blood on his hands unless you call the Police.

What has DHS been saying these past few years? If you see something, say something. They haven't made that Patriot App for the iPhone for nothing.

  2. Hi Mike,

For some reason, the link you supplied for the 2011 article isnt going anywhere. Keep in mind that this article came from another pro gun control blog, which got it from a different gun control blog. Did you check the links before posting?
In the most recent article, the man involved was a police officer with over 20 years of experience. Whenever you see school resource officer mentioned, it's a cop. And the second event listed was a retired police officer with an even longer service record.
And then, the author of the post threw in an entirely unrelated event involving a relative of one of the teachers at the school who illegally brought a gun into the school. We was charged with an offense and turned himself in.

    1. What's your point, ss? Are you saying when Wayne La Pierre said "good guy with a gun" he was excluding cops?

    2. No, I wasnt saying that. I was pointing out that when someone has to dig so deep that in order to lend credibility to their argument that they use data that has nothing to do with their claim, it calls into question all of the data. In this case, Baldr seems to own all of the blogs that he uses as sources, which can make finally getting to the real data a challenge.
For example, it's a common assertion that many believe that only the military and police should have ready access to either some, or all guns. Then someone writes an article where a good percentage of the people who misused their firearms in a school were police officers. I'm all for holding those who misuse firearms accountable for their actions, you using an article from Baldr who uses data that has no relevance to his assertion, doesnt help your credibility.

Baldr wrote as an intro to the list you put in your post, "But there HAVE been instances where conceal carry permit holders, including armed security guards, have had accidents at schools. Consider the following examples:"
