Michigan Man Shoots Himself by Accident - No Charges

Nicholas Kegley, 32, of Iron River, was cleaning a .22 caliber pistol while waiting in his vehicle for a friend.
Kegley and friends had been camping and hunting together in northern Bates Township. Kegley told the deputies that the slide had been sticking on the pistol and he used the time waiting to clean the gun.
While cleaning the pistol Kegley unintentionally chambered a live cartridge and discharged the firearm. The bullet struck Kegley in the upper left leg then lodged in the driver door of his vehicle.
Kegley was taken by his friend to the Northstar Hospital in Iron River where he was treated for the gunshot wound then released.
Deputies found the incident to be accidental and the investigation has been closed.
A guy who is stupid enough to do something as negligent as that should never be allowed to own a gun for the rest of his life.

This was probably not his very first act of negligence, and thanks to the lax laws and nonchalant attitudes towards gun safety, it probably won't be his last.

By disarming the unfit gun owners when they come to the attention of the authorities, we'd make the world a safer place.

  1. Ah, the old eject the round from the chamber without removing the magazine trick. It actually happens in the military and I presume in law enforcement.
I'm trying to picture the effectiveness of such a policy as the one you suggest in say, the military. Have a negligent discharge in a clearing barrel, then you get your weapons taken away, and then you don't have to go outside the wire.
Needless to say, the military does it a bit differently. And it seems to work.

  2. Mikeb, sometimes, you just have to accept that you can't control other people. That's a terrible realization for a busybody, but there it is.

    1. Meanwhile these hillbilly lying fuck heads expect that society should live with unnecessary death, because they are troglodyte idiots who could care less about life. There is a reason these hillbillies built their State as the worst in the nation. Minnesotans are just as stupid and dangerous. How many Minnesotans will die during the next hunting season because you defend their idiocy? A man is squirrel? A man is a turkey? You can't get any dumber, unless you are one of these lying fuck head hillbillies who promote death.

    2. Jim, the one who refers to himself as "Greg Camp" has long been suspected to be a troll (who some suspect to be child molester Ted Nugent) who posts in multiple persona on this site.

      Don't feed the troll.

    3. Greg, it's not about controlling people. It's about removing guns from those who prove themselves unfit to handle them safely. You should approve of such an effort. I know you don't like it when I supposedly (I don't really) want to disarm people for future acts they haven't yet committed. These are guys who have misused guns and abused their right to own them.

    4. In cases like this, the victim hurt only himself. I call that a valuable lesson.

    5. Gee, if we could only count on idiots ONLY hurting themselves!

    6. That's right, since we can't count on these idiots only hurting themselves, we must remove their guns before they hurt or kill someone else.

This is a good way to chip away at the bad 50% of gun owners without harming the rights of the good guys and without violating the rights of the clumsy negligent idiots by anticipating when they might do something in the future. These are guys who have proven themselves.

  3. Ah, Campy, but we can control who has guns, and what happens when they screw up with them, resulting in injury. It has to do with the legitimacy of regulation as public safety policy.

We can start by making sure he carries insurance, both on his body and on his gun, so that the rest of us don't have to pay for stupid people running up bills by owning and screwing up with guns.

    1. Until you learn to adopt a civil tone, I'm going to treat you like Jim. Of course, you might want to read his comment about people from Minnesota above.

    2. You started the uncivil tone, so I don't care if you don't like being treated like shit, neither did I. So go cry to your mama, or is it just your but fuck buddy TN.

    3. Just remember, it's not homophobic when a gun controller says things like that!

    4. Ask Greg and TN.

    5. Greg, were you saying that Dog Gone's tone was uncivil?

    7. That's the maturity and reasonableness I've come to expect from you, Greg. It makes me worry for your friends and neighbors.

    9. Gee, and you never had my approval to treat me like shit, especially since I did not treat you like shit. You treating me like shit just came out of nothing, or your lying fuck head hillbilly mind.

    1. Before you cast the well deserved label of "troll" upon rather obvious trolls, it would be wise to take a look at the nature of ones own comments and the comments of those who take your side.

Any political forum that is left open to the masses will inevitably devolve into the familiar simian arena of insults, ad hominem, shouts, and airborne poo. You banter back and forth with the resident statists, but achieve nothing except the mutual wastage of time and resources. In this digital jungle, it is all but impossible to convince anyone to admit defeat and take up your your side. Nothing is achieved. Your anger towards the honest troll stems from the fact that you substantively no different, yet bear the pretension of riotousness.

We are all trolls, yet some are more honest than others.

    2. Yes evil comments.
Like hillbillies comment that he will take the law into his own hands, fuck the police, due process, or judges.
Hillbilly will take over Calif. by force.
Hillbillies contention that innocent people must die for his right, even if it is proven that simple steps could stop some of those deaths. Yes, EVIL!
