A Cross County child reportedly accidentally shot his 10 year old sibling Saturday evening.
Cross County Sheriff J. R. Smith says the 10 year old was shot with a .22-caliber pistol in the stomach area at a home east of Wynne, off Hwy. 64. The child was flown to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital while his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Police and investigators are still on the scene right now.
This sounds like one of Greg's neighbors who has the same low standards for gun safety and security that he does.
Whenever a kid gets his hands on a gun and shoots another kid with it, some adult should be held accountable. Thanks to the lax gun laws and even laxer attitudes towards gun negligence, this is rarely the case.

ReplyDeleteThis happened yesterday. The police are investigating and the parents aren't going anywhere because they are likely at the hospital with their wounded child. This isn't TV.
Too often there is no one held accountable.
DeleteMike was kind enough to point out that when something like this happens in San Diego, someone is charged with a crime, even if if is just involuntary manslaughter and criminal storage of a gun. I guess if you don't have kids, it's not quite as critical. Do you guys really believe that this is trivial? Who cares if some kid gets shot?

DeleteThe report that Mike posted was written the day after the child was wounded. There are no courts open on the weekends as a rule. And the prosecutors likely aren't working the weekend either.
The parents aren't going anywhere because they are likely camped out at the hospital with their wounded child. The wheels of justice in real life don't turn as fast as they do on TV, but they do get there.
I don't know if it's all cases in San Diego, but that one high profile case is a good example of the way it should work. According to the gun-rights fanatics of course it's trivial. Everything is trivial compared to their rights.
