Concealed Carry on Campus to Prevent Rape

As gun rights advocates push to legalize firearms on college campuses, an argument is taking shape: Arming female students will help reduce sexual assaults.
Support for so-called campus carry laws had been hard to muster despite efforts by proponents to argue that armed students and faculty members could prevent mass shootings like the one at Virginia Tech in 2007. The carrying of concealed firearms on college campuses is banned in 41 states by law or by university policy. Carrying guns openly is generally not permitted.
But this year, lawmakers in 10 states who are pushing bills that would permit the carrying of firearms on campus are hoping that the national spotlight on sexual assault will help them win passage of their measures.
“If you’ve got a person that’s raped because you wouldn’t let them carry a firearm to defend themselves, I think you’re responsible,” State Representative Dennis K. Baxley of Florida said during debate in a House subcommittee last month. The bill passed.

  1. Well, first of all their map isn't accurate. In Minnesota, it isn't illegal for a permit holder to carry on the grounds of a post-secondary school. However, state law does allow administrators to have rules against students or employees carrying. So the consequence of being discovered is potential expulsion for a student or termination for an employee. I found it quite ironic that for some reason registering for my classes somehow made me less trustworthy.
The claim that carrying on campus can't really be taken any more seriously than the belief that having a campus police department will have the same effect. However, the decision as to what measures to take for self protection should be left up to the individual since they can best make that decision and they are the ones ultimately responsibly for their self protection.
The requirement to surrender some of your rights if you wish to pursue an education at a public school is just plain wrong.

    1. Amazing a liar like you would put himself up to decide what's right, or wrong for anybody.

    1. Guns everywhere = as bad as burning people alive and sawing their heads off?

Well, Fred, thanks for pointing out that you are either so dishonest that you are willing to say anything to make your opponents look bad, even when you know it isn't true, or you are terminally stupid.

Now now, SJ--let's not be hasty. I see no reason to have to choose between the two possibilities you named. The combination of both seems quite the most likely explanation.

    3. You have already proven how stupid you are SJ.
So you say Islamic terrorists don't use guns? They just saw people's heads off and burn them alive? Great SJ, another idiot gun loon proving how stupid he is.
